Message definition (Planning and Organizing)

The key distinction is between commercial digital archiving solutions sold by software companies and open-source software developed by communities of programmers that are free to use. Both these options have their benefits and disadvantages that need to be carefully considered before we make the selection. The list of requirements from the Digital Archiving System (see Addendum III) will provide useful guidance in this process, as the two software solutions can be evaluated against it.

La distinción clave existe entre las soluciones comerciales de archivo digital vendidas por empresas de software y el software de código abierto, que es desarrollado por comunidades de programadores y, lo que es importante, es de uso gratuito. Ambas opciones tienen sus beneficios y sus desventajas, las cuales deben considerarse cuidadosamente antes de hacer la selección. La lista de requisitos del sistema de archivo digital (consulte el Anexo III) brindará una guía útil en este proceso, ya que los dos tipos diferentes de soluciones de software se pueden evaluar frente a ella.
